The Q Hunter Plus a 25% off Code

Have you used a coupon clipping service before?  Did you know that kind of service existed?
Find a Discount Code for Saving Bits and Pieces Readers Below

I've mentioned The Q Hunter a few times before but wanted to tell you more about the service.  I heard about The Q Hunter from my aunt not too long ago.  In the past my source for ordering coupons was ebay.  I'm happy to have added The Q Hunter as the source I go to first now.

Sounds like The Q Hunter uses stockpiling to save like I do.  Her hard work of cutting and sorting coupons weekly allows customers to buy multiples of coupons to be combined with great sales to save by stockpiling.  The Q Hunter sold coupons on ebay first.  Because of ebay fees and her desire to offer coupons at the lowest possible price she moved her service to her own website.  Fewer fees for her means lower prices for us!

The Q Hunter's Storefront is very easy to navigate.  Coupons can be found in various ways using the list on the right side of the storefront labeled "Insert Date."  "Hot Coupons" are those that The Q Hunter knows will match well with upcoming sales.  Search by insert date to find coupons that came out the same dates.  The way I usually search is with the search window on the right side of the page.  I enter key words like toilet paper or peanut butter ... or brand names like Angel Soft or Skippy to find the coupons I want to order.  There are also whole inserts available for purchase.

Some coupon listings may say that they will not be available until Tuesday.  That is because in addition to local inserts (Cincinnati area) The Q Hunter also gets inserts from out of town and they take longer to get to her.

The coupons are priced per coupon.  The price varies based on the value of the coupon but most I've seen have been priced around $.08 to $.30 per coupon.  The listings show how many of a particular coupon are available.  Enter the number you want to order. Remember The Q Hunter is a smaller coupon clipping service.  Some coupons may have limits to the number you may purchase.  Please don't order more than 30 of any one coupon without emailing Cindy (The Q Hunter) first.  I know of an instance when The Q Hunter helped my aunt with a large number of coupons to help her use coupons to purchase many items for Christmas donation baskets.

A minimum of $1.00 is required per order.  Shipping charges are determined by the amount of your order.  First Class Shipping is $1.00 for orders totaling from $1.00 to $2.99, $.44 for orders totaling $3.00 to $4.99 and FREE for orders over $5.00.  There is a 9am cutoff for shipping.  Coupons ordered before 9am will go out that same day.  I order on Sunday's and have had my coupons by Tuesday every time.

I ordered coupons for Nature Valley Granola Bars (see deal senario here) and Barilla Pasta last night.  I'll be adding both to my stockpile!

So now for the Discount code I mentioned above.  From now through Friday March 12th the first 50 Saving Bits and Pieces readers using code SBPMarch7 will save 25% on their order of $2.00 - $100.00.  Yep that's right you can save on coupons that will help you save even more!!   So set up your account, get your coupons ordered and save as you add to your stockpile!!

Menu Plan Monday

Since the end of last week brought some changes to our plans, you'll see a few meals from last week on this week's plan.  Homemade Pizza is one of those meals.  In fact you may have noticed that Homemade Pizza is on our Menu Plan most weeks.  Take out pizza was a regular thing for us until a few years ago when I learned that making pizza at home is not hard. The crust scared me ... that was before I even considered making homemade bread ... and pizza crust is kind of like bread, right?

Here's the recipe I use for Pizza Crust
2 1/4 cups Flour
2 1/4 tsp Yeast
1 Tblsp Oil
1 tsp Sugar
1 1/4 Cups Warm Water

I have a Kitchen Aid Stand mixer so I put all the ingredients (in no particular order) into the bowl and use the dough hook to mix it up.  I'm sure it could be mixed by hand and then kneaded some if you don't have a stand mixer.  Let rise for at least a 1/2 hour, roll out and top.

We like to top our pizzas with everything from traditional red sauce with veggies and sausage or pepperoni to BBQ sauce or Hot Sauce and chicken.  We've even used Alfredo sauce with shrimp & veggies.  That's the beauty of making your own pizza's ... the toppings are all up to your tastes and  imagination.

Preheat your oven to 425.  Baking time varies depending on how thin or thick you roll out your crust.  I'd say 12-15 minutes is a good guess.

In a pinch I've also used Artisan Free Form Bread dough from my fridge for pizza crust too!

What are your favorite pizza toppings?

Here's what's for dinner this week....
  • Monday - Chicken Tetrazinni
  • Tuesday - Shredded BBQ Chicken Sandwiches, Pretzels & Fresh Veggie
  • Wednesday - Ham & Potato Soup
  • Thursday - Italian Sausage Spaghetti
  • Friday - Chuck Roast with Carrots & Potatoes
  • Saturday - Chicken Fajitas
  • Sunday - Homemade Pizza
What are you having for dinner this week?

See lots of other Menu Plans over at Organizing Junkie.

Sometimes Plans Change

There seems to be a common theme at our house for the last few days .... sometimes plans change!  Of course I knew that before ....

Last week when I did our menu plan I had a dinner at home planned for each night.  On Tuesday, our boys .... All 3 of them .... were invited for a sleepover at a friend's house on Friday night.  No kids for a whole night ... WOW!!  So of course hubby and I didn't have Chicken Tetrazini for Dinner.  We made plans for a much needed date night with dinner out and a quiet morning at home on Saturday.  Then I heard that Ikea was having $1 Meatball Meals this weekend.  So that added to the fact that my boys were having pizza at the sleepover, we decided to change our menu plan for Saturday from homemade pizza to meatballs instead.  Add that to PJ Day and free ice cream at Bruster's .... sounded like the perfect family date night out for Saturday.  (Read on because my information about Bruster's PJ Day was wrong.)

So all of that sounds like good changes right?  Well yes the boys went for their sleepover and hubby and I had a great night out.  Then the phone rang at 3:30 am.  My middle son, Logan, had just gotten sick all over his sleeping bag at his friend's house.  Off we went to get him.  We got a few more hours of sleep and woke to Logan still not feeling great but asking for breakfast.  Good sign for the day, right?  We played as a family outside .... in the 50 degree sunshine .... Logan included .... for hours.  We had lunch on the deck and decided that the plan for Ikea and Bruster's was still on.  4 of the 5 of us got showers and dressed in our PJ's.  Then Logan came to me and said "Mom I think I'm going to be sick."  And he was right.

Now what's for dinner?  We decided that the other 2 boys and I would go to Bruster's and come back home for a chicken nachos/tacos dinner.  This is where having dinners prepared ahead and in freezer is so valuable!!
The 3 of us got to Bruster's in our PJ's and found a PJ Day poster in the window.... with a date of March 20th.  Remember today is March 6th.  I commented that I thought the PJ Day was today.  A manager (I think) came to the window ... commented how cute my boys were in their PJ's and asked what kind of ice cream we wanted in our waffle cones.  She then told the boys to make sure to have me bring them back on the 20th for another FREE cone! She didn't have to give us our ice cream for FREE today but by doing so she made a future customer out of me .... that and the fact that the Cherry Cheesecake ice cream is to die for!!  So mark your calendar for PJ Day at Bruster's on March 20th.

So yes life is full of changes ... some good and some not so good.

My Points

MyPoints

Most of what I post about are ways to save money .... but how about a way to earn?  I am registered with several online survey companies.  Just like my "Deals" Account, I also have an email account for my surveys too.

My Points is a little different than other survey sites in that there are more ways to save than just taking surveys.  My favorite way to earn with My Points is by reading emails.  That's right you can be rewarded points just for reading emails from My Points.  I often do this while I'm talking on the phone.  It takes just a second.  Most of the time you get 5 points just for reading the email and clicking through to an advertisers website.  If you take advantage of any of the offers you can earn more points too.  The points don't accumulate quickly but over time they add up.

The surveys I get from My Points earn points too.  I like that I get a small number of points even if I don't qualify for the survey.  Of course if I do qualify I get more points.

Another way to earn points is by starting at My Points and then clicking through the shop option to find online retailers you were going to shop with anyway.  The rewards vary by merchant.

The last few years I have used the points in My Points accounts to get Gift Cards to use as teacher's Christmas Gifts.  So really My Points is a way to save and earn!

Click on the image above to get started with My Points then watch for an email to activate your account.

Cellfire Coupons

Have you heard of Cellfire?  Are you using it?  I'm guilty of forgetting about this great coupon source.  Cellfire offers access to coupons that can be loaded onto your store's shopper card ... that would be the Kroger Plus card in my area. (See a list of other participating stores at the bottom of this post.)  First set up an account and add your Shopper Card number.  Then simply search the website for available coupons and click to add coupons to your card.  The next time you purchase an item that corresponds with a Cellfire coupon on your card the savings come off automatically.  No need to alert the cashier or anything.  That's all there is to it!

I mentioned that I forget about Cellfire.  Not anymore.  My problem was remembering what coupons I had on my card and searching for new coupons as they become available.  I just learned that I can print a list of the coupons currently on my card.  (It's really very simple. Not sure how I missed it!)  No more excuses that I don't know what's on my card!  That list will go right in the front of my coupon binder.

I know I'm only scratching the surface with ways to save using Cellfire.  A Cellfire App can be added to your cell phone to find deals away from your computer (hence the name Cellfire.)  Do you know something I don't about Cellfire?  Probably ... Teach me please!  Leave a comment so we can all learn more.

Cellfire isn't the only site to load coupons onto your store card.  I'll post about the others in the next few days.

Here's the list of the coupons available now on Cellfire.

Walgreen's Trip March 3rd

I went to both Walgreen's and Meijer today.  Usually I would post both trips in one post but I wanted to do this one separately so I could give you an update about the Purex Deal at Walgreens.

It worked!!  Walgreen's has an unadvertised deal on Purex Laundry Detergent.  It's priced at $5.99 and Buy One Get One Free.  The 2/21 Red Plum Insert had a Purex BOGO coupon.  The coupon paired with the Walgreen's sale means 2 bottles of Purex for FREE!!

If you are planning to go ... do so soon!  I've heard that the Walgreen's BOGO sale will last all month but the BOGO coupon expires on March 6th (this coming Saturday.)

You can see that I also used my BOGO Skittles and Starburst coupons too!  Get yours if you haven't already.

So the grand total for my trip to Walgreen's was $2.03.  I saved $13.72 .... $7.73 of that was from coupons.  That's a savings of 88%.  I could have been 100% but I could resist the candy!

Homemade Bread Crumbs

I've read ... and used .... lots of Works for Me Wednesday tips.  I'm so excited to share my first one!!

Lately, the blog world (or should I say the world of blogs I read) seems to be filled with posts about freezer cooking, time saving tips in the kitchen and money saving tips too.  I spent last Friday filling my freezer with chicken cooked in a few different ways that will make 7 dinners steps easier when it's time to prepare them.  Money Saving Mom has a series of posts about the freezer cooking she did this week.  Maybe some day I'll be as organized as she is!!  Lots of bloggers have linked up their freezer cooking day results here.

I have a time saving/money saving tip that I wanted to share with you.  I got this tip online somewhere few years ago but don't remember where one so I apologize for not properly citing my source.

What does your family do with the end or heels of a loaf of bread?  Eat them or throw them out?  I admit we're picky and only eat them as a last resort (ie if there is no other bread is in the house.)  When that's all that is left in the bread bag ... into the trash can the bag plus the ends would go.  Not anymore.

Do you buy bread crumbs?  Or do you make them yourself each time you need them?  I don't do either.

Now each time we finish a loaf of bread I add the heels from that loaf to a bread bag in my freezer.  Every so often ... whenever the bag is full or we are low on bread crumbs ... I toast the bread heels in the oven and use my food processor to make bread crumbs.  I keep them in a container in my kitchen cabinet.  I can add my own seasonings and herbs to suit what ever dish I am preparing.

As you can see ... my 5 yr old thinks adding and watching the toasted bread turn into bread crumbs is pretty cool!  I love things like this that are both fun for him and productive for me!

Check out lots of other Works for Me Wednesday Tips here.

Update:  Here's more about the profile picture upload on the Swagbucks Blog.  Sounds like the plans didn't work out as planned but will still lead to Swagbucks afterall.

Fruit Snacks Plus One Laptop Per Child Giveaway

I'm so excited about this opportunity.  Not only will one of you get something but that person will also get to give something to others!  Read on....

There are so many things that we as adults take for granted.  Since that's the case just think what our children take for granted.  We live in a part of the world where the most basic of needs are not even questioned for lots of us.  Will we have a warm home, food to eat and water to drink?  For most of us the answer to that question is "Of Course."  The answer is the same though for other things that aren't the most basic needs.  I admit I'd be lost without a computer in my house.  My kids wouldn't know a house without electronics ... computer, game systems, TVs.

Betty Crocker is working with an organization called One Laptop Per Child.  One Laptop Per Child's Mission Statement (straight from their website )is:

"To create educational opportunities for the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. When children have access to this type of tool they get engaged in their own education. They learn, share, create, and collaborate. They become connected to each other, to the world and to a brighter future."

Specially marked boxes of Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks have a unique code with which your child could win a laptop for themselves AND Betty Crocker Flavored Fruit Snacks will donate another one to a child in Africa.  One prize will be won daily between now and May 30, 2010.  Watch for the specially marked packages and enter your code online for a chance to win and give!

That's not all ..... My BlogSpark and Betty Crocker provided me with 2 boxes of Betty Crocker Flavored Fruit Snacks.  (The codes on my boxes weren't winners.  Oh well!) AND they also made a $25 donation to One Laptop Per Child on my behalf.  They also generously offered to do the same for one of my readers.

So here it is ... your chance to win 2 Boxes of Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks and help One Laptop Per Child with a $25 donation made on your behalf.

To enter to win you must do option number 1.  Options number 2-4 are up to you and will gain you additional entries!  Be sure to leave your name and/or email address so I can notify you if you are the winner.  I have 2 entries (from the same person I think) without a name or anything.  If that was you please email me.  Thanks!!
  1. Share what you have done to encourage your children to help others or what you have done to help others if you don't have children.
  2. Become a follower of Saving Bit and Pieces ~~~ Leave me a comment to let me know you're following.  Leave a comment if you're already a follower too (Thank You!!)

Good Luck!  I'll close this giveaway at the end of the day on Tuesday March 9, 2010 and announce the winner on Wednesday March 10, 2010.  Only entries left here on the site will count and you must leave one comment per entry method.

Gold Medal Flour $.74!!

I use a lot of flour!  Artisian Free Form Bread and Homemade Pizza are regulars on my  menu plans.  When I think I'm stocked up on it I turn around and it's almost gone again.

Did you print your Gold Medal Flour coupons yet?  If you're a local reader ... Print them and get a a 5lb bag of flour for just $.74!  Remember you can print 2 coupons per computer.
Thanks to Tosha at Saving Makes Sense here's how ...
Jungle Jim's has 5lb Bags of Gold Medal on sale for $1.49
They just recently stopped taking internet printable coupons though.
So take a Jungle Jim's ad and your Gold Medal coupons to Walmart or Target.  Both stores price match from local competitors ads.

$1.49 Price Match Price for Gold Medal
=$.74 Flour

Yeah!!  Thanks Tosha!
