This weekend, August 6th - 8th, Sam's Clubs are hosting an Open House.  Non-members can shop at Sam's and pay the same price as members do.  We have neighbors who just bought a very nice deck storage box from Sam's.  After tomorrow, we're going to have a matching one on our deck too!

Meijer Trip 8/6 - Saved 73%!!!

I thought that my early morning trip to Kroger for the General Mills 50% Off Event was going to be the "story of the day."  But with this catalina, the 2 Day Sale and some pretty great coupons, my trip to Meijer was much more exciting!!

I did four transactions.  Lately I've been totaling them in one list but since I have several new readers lately I'm going to break this trip down by transaction.

4 $1/1 Cinnabon Cereal
6 Packages of Keebler Sandwich Crackers ~~~ $1.25
3 $1/2 Keebler Sandwich Crackers
1 Payday Bar - I broke a rule of shopping and went hungry. LOL!

Spent $6.24 and received a $10 Catalina!!

4 Bottles of Juicy Juice ~~~ $2.00 ea
1 $2/4 Juicy Juice
Stacked with 1 $2/4 Juicy Juice Meijer Mealbox - No longer available

**Hot Catalina at Meijer!!**

I have very few details for you.  I first heard of this from Money Saving Mom but I had no confirmation that it was running locally.  Now that it worked for me today at Meijer I have to share ....

Buy any combination of 10 Kellogg's, Keebler, Sunshine, Eggo and/or Morningstar Products in one transaction and get a $10 catalina off your next purchase!!

It is awesome paired with the cereal and sandwich crackers in the Meijer 2 Day Sale today and tomorrow!  The details for my trip will be in the next post. I wanted to be sure this got the emphasis that it deserves.

Anyone know an end date for this catalina??

Freezer Cooking Results 8/2

I spent some time in the kitchen Tuesday afternoon.  It wasn't as ambitious as previous freezer cooking days but nonetheless I have 6 dinners worth of chicken in my freezer!

I started with 2 Chicken Fajita Packets.  Very easy and basic but oh so nice when it comes time for dinner!  The chicken breasts, pepper and onions are cut up in strips and in separate baggies.  I put all three in a larger bag with a packet of fajita seasoning.  When this goes on a Menu Plan I'll just have to add flour tortillas and cheese.
I love how the fresh ingredients for the Spicy Southwest marinade look in my blender!

Next I made 2 marinades .... Asian and Spicy Southwest.  Both are fresh, tasty marinades.  I trimmed chicken breasts and put them in bags with the marinades.  I have 2 of each in the freezer.  I had hoped to have 6 meals worth total but I underestimated how much chicken I would need for each.  I keep forgetting that my boys appetites are growing.  What used to be plenty is now sometimes not enough.  I have a bottle of the Spicy Southwest marinade in the fridge (made too much.)  It's going to go on a Pork Tenderloin for one of next week's dinners.

It feels so good to have meals and parts of meals in the freezer!  What do you prepare ahead of time and freeze??

Kroger Trip and Freezer Cooking Day

Some grocery trips are more impressive than others.  And sometimes stockpiling means spending a little more one week and saving another.  Okay sorry, that was for my benefit more than yours.  I left Kroger last night a little upset that I'd spent more than I planned but it's okay ... right?

Since Kroger's sale week ended yesterday and a new ad started today, I won't post the breakdown of this trip.  I went mostly for the Speed Stick Deodorant that was FREE ... yes all 20 of them!  And for the chicken priced at $1.99/lb (which is priced the same at Meijer this week.)  I spent $59.19 and saved $60.81 .... that's 50% saved!  Nothing to complain about but, when added to my Meijer trip on Saturday, over my budget for the week.

My plan is to put 8 dinners worth of chicken in the freezer tomorrow.  Tuesday's are my busy days so my plan does not include anything that requires cooking.  All will make future dinners easier though!  I'm going to put together 2 Chicken Fajita Packets, 2 bags of Asian marinaded chicken and 4 bags of Spicy Southwest marinaded chicken.  Nothing daring.  All things I've made and froze before.  All things that my family really liked the first time.

I'll post my results tomorrow.  I'm sure you will see these chicken dinners on  Menu Plan Mondays in the near future!

What things do you do with Chicken for freezer meals??

Pretzel Crips as Low ast $.50 a Bag!!!

My family just discovered Pretzel Crisps last week.  They are sooo good!  Today on a very small trip to Jungle Jim's (just for reduced peppers) I saw that these were priced at 2/$3.00 AND that there were peelie coupons being put on them for $1.00/bag.  Yes, a woman standing right there attaching the stickers to each and every bag.  As I stopped to look at them she pointed out ... "With the coupon they are only $.50 a bag!"  She went on to tell me that they are changing the packaging so all of the product with this packaging was getting the $1.00 coupon.  There were plenty more there when I left.  I wonder (and assume?) that other stores supply may have the same peelie coupon too!

If you haven't tried them already, the Buffalo Wing flavor is awesome!  Let me know if you find bags with the coupon elsewhere.

Jungle Jim's Ad Week of August 2nd

If you're local I hope you've been to ... or at least heard of ... Jungle Jim's.  If you're not local, then put Jungle Jim's on a must visit list if you are ever in the Greater Cincinnati Area.  As the logo says Jungle Jim's is an International Market. It's also a one of a kind store like none other!  Jungle Jim's started many years ago as a produce stand and it has grown many times over the years.

Jungle Jim's does not double coupons and they do not accept printable coupons.  Even still there can be some great deals to be had and they have the best produce around.  Be sure to check the many "reduced" areas around the store including the reduced produce area which is where I do most of my fresh produce shopping.  I watch for reduced meats on every trip too!  Jungle Jim's sales run from Monday to Sunday.

Menu Plan Monday August 2nd

I see red in my backyard! Red tomatoes that is.  Yay!  My tomato plants are falling down heavy with lots of green tomatoes and this week some have turned red.  Of the things we grow in the garden, my husband and I look forward to the tomatoes the most.  On a sandwich, in a salad, diced on top of scrambled eggs or just sliced and salted on a plate ... We will run out of tomatoes before we get tired of eating them.

Here's what's for dinner this week...

Monday - Grilled Cheddarwurst, Fruit, Veggies & Dip

Tuesday -  Balsamic Chicken and Fresh Mozzarella, Homemade Bread  This a new to me recipe.  It looks so good!  I'll let you know what we think.

Wednesday - My Birthday!  I haven't decided if we're going out or hubby is cooking.

Thursday - Smoked Chicken, Grilled Sweet Potatoes & Asparagus

Friday - BLT's, Grilled Corn on the Cob, Homemade French Fries

Saturday - Family Wedding

Sunday - Homemade Pizza

What are you having for dinner this week?
